McKinley Park Tree Tour

The sheer number and variety of trees in McKinley Park can be mind-boggling. That's why this coming Tuesday, August 20, the Sacramento Tree Foundation will conduct another of their popular free McKinley Park tree tours.

A certified arborist will walk you through the park, identifying trees by sight as well as through an app, GreenprintMaps. (Bringing a tablet or smartphone is encouraged but not required.) This app is truly amazing.

Participants will meet up at the Shepard Garden and Art Center parking lot at 6:30pm, and will be guided through the park until about 8pm. For more information and to register, visit www.sactree.com.

My wife, Cheryl, and I did this tour last month and we were delighted by Ann and her great knowledge of trees. We even brought a couple leaves from our Sycamore tree that were obviously having some issues. She diagnosed the problem and let us know that it was nothing to worry about, just a reaction to a late season rain. Our little tree would still grow up to be a giant and give us a great canopy over our house and street.
