Maifest

This coming Sunday, May 5, celebrate spring the German way at the Sacramento Turn Verein. As stated on the Turn Verein website: 

"Every May, the Sacramento Turn Verein German Language School hosts the Maifest, a family-friendly celebration of the arrival of spring. The festive event includes German Maypole dancers, German music, picnic food, puppet shows, face painting, crafts, story-telling, an adult biergarten, Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cake) and the famous “Maibowle” drink, which contains strawberries soaked in brandy."

4th Annual Gala Dinner Dance

This Friday, April 25, Theodore Judah Elementary will host its 4^th Annual Gala Dinner Dance at the Sacramento Turn Verein. The event starts at 7pm and will include a sit-down dinner buffet catered by Jill Zenti of Z-Chef, open beer and wine bar, live music, dancing and silent and live auctions.

Tickets are $55 per person. Proceeds from the event will go to support the school’s enrichment programs, including art, music, garden and science labs. Capital City International Beerfest

This Saturday, April 19, celebrate Easter in a more adult manner at the Capital City International Beerfest at the Sacramento Turn Verein from 2-5pm. For more information, and to buy tickets, go to sacramentoturnverein.com or www.capcitybeerfest.com.

Bockbierfest

Come on by the Sacramento Turn Verein at 3349 J Street this Friday or Saturday (or both) to celebrate that fine Bavarian libation: Bockbier. The 46th Annual Bockbierfest will be held from 6pm to 12am on April 4 and from 3pm to 12am on April 5.

During that time, attendees (those 21 and over, that is) will enjoy plenty of the rich, dark beer as well as live German music, Bavarian folk dancing, traditional German food and the outdoor Biergarten. From 3-6pm on Saturday, there will also be activities and crafts available for the kids.

Christkindlmarkt

This Saturday and Sunday, December 7 and 8, the Sacramento Turn Verein will host its annual Christkindlmarkt. This take on the traditional German Christmas Market will feature live Christmas music, a Nurnberg sausage dinner and gluhwein (hot spiced wine). The market area itself will include a wide range of arts, crafts and baked goods for sale.

Admission for adults is $3, with children under 12 free. (Adult admission will also be free with the donation of a child's coat in good condition.) For more information, call (916) 442-7360.
